MDI stands for “Medium Dependent Interface”. MDI is a type of Ethernet port found on network devices. When connecting two devices with MDI ports (two hosts, for example) an Ethernet crossover cable is required. The crossover cable switches the send and receive ports on the two connectors, allowing data to flow correctly between two MDI ports.

Question 7

Explanation

At the end of each frame there is a Frame Check Sequence (FCS) field. FCS can be analyzed to determine if errors have occurred. FCS uses cyclic redundancy check (CRC) algorithm to detect errors in the transmitted frames. Before sending data, the sending host generates a CRC based on the header and data of that frame. When this frame arrives, the receiving host uses the same algorithm to generate its own CRC and compare them. If they do not match then a CRC error will occur.

The “Type/Length” field is used to indicate the “Type”of the payload (Layer 3 protocol) which is indicated as a Hexadecimal value.

Note: Ethernet II uses “Type” while the old Ethernet version use “Length”

At present, there are four kinds of multi-mode fibers: OM1, OM2, OM3 and OM4. The letters “OM” stand for optical multi-mode. OM3 and OM4 fibers will support upcoming 40 and 100 Gb/s speeds.

    Question 6 – Answer D may not be correct. The full explanation from the Cisco link:
    Verify that the TFTP or RCP server has IP connectivity to the router. If you cannot successfully ping between the TFTP or RCP server and the router, do one of the following:
    – Configure a default gateway on the router.
    – Make sure that the server and the router each have an IP address in the same network or subnet

    The 1st choice to configure default gateway is to communicate beyond the LAN. In fact, you always can tftp to other networks as long as the valid routing existed. The tftp not supporting encrypted format is true, at least when tftp originally developed.

    In a simple way, can anybody explain to me what is APIC-EM, is it an OS, Application or software. I understand it configures the branch or enterprise network automatically. Equivalent to CISCO router does that mean if there is a Cisco router at the main office with APIC-EM it will automatically configure the other routers on the branches ?

    A. the operation is performed in active mode
    B. the operation is performed in unencrypted format – Correct, TFTP uses no security or encryption.
    C. the operation is performed in passive mode
    D. the Cisco IOS device must be on the same LAN as the TFTP server – Incorrect, they do not have to be in the same LAN. It can use the default gateway to get there.

    This makes more sense. Am I wrong? what do you guys think?

    In question 6… choices A to C are invalid answers while choice D is the only sensible choice. In the real world, the tftp server can be on a different subnet as long as its pingable, and no firewall os blocking it.

    Question 6 correct answer is B, that means unencrypted. TFTP is the “Trivial File Transfer Protocol”. SO, no encryption. Only rule regarding transfering files to/from TFTP is to be reacheable. TFTP need gateway, in case is in different LAN.
    Tony find first the correct answer.
    Q8: “It can transmit data at a rate higher than the path capacity”. Roman is not absurd for UDP. UDP protocol has no verification or handshake-mechanism. You CAN transmit, but at the receiver you will not see all the packets. For TCP is impossible to do that, because are some TCP congestion-avoidance algorithm (slow-start and congestion-window).
    For example, Slow-start is used in conjunction with other algorithms to avoid sending more data than the network is capable of transmitting, that is, to avoid causing network congestion. The algorithm is specified by RFC 5681
