IPv6 OSPF Sim

Question

All routers are running IPv6 OSPF with process ID 100. The loopback0 IPv4 address is the OSPF router ID of each router.

On HQ router, a provider link is provided and you have to configure an IPv6 default route on HQ and make sure this route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF process. Also troubleshoot why HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR.

Requirements:

1. Configure IPv6 default route on HQ router with default gateway of 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1
2. Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring default route on HQ
3. Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table
4. Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. Troubleshoot and solve the problem

Special Note: To gain the maximum number of points, you must complete the necessary configurations and fix IPv6 OSPF neighbor issue with router BR. IPv6 OSPFv3 must be configured without using address families. Do not change the IPv6 OSPF process ID.

IPv6_OSPF_Topology.jpg

Solution

1. Configure IPv6 default route on HQ router with default gateway of 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1:

HQ(config)#ipv6 unicast-routing
HQ(config)#ipv6 route ::/0 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1

First we have to enable IPv6 routing with the “ipv6 unicast-routing” command then we configure a default route on HQ router.

2. Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring default route on HQ:

HQ#ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1

Issue the ping test to see if the default route works. The ping must be successful.

3. Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table:

HQ(config)# ipv6 router ospf 100
HQ(config-rtr)#default-information originate

The command “default-information originate” will generate a default route and send to all other routers in the OSPF domain, provided that the local router has a default route configured.

4. Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. Troubleshoot and solve the problem

Maybe interface S1/0 of HQ was not enabled with IPv6 OSPF (verify by the “show run” or “show ipv6 ospf interface” command) so we have to enable it.

HQ(config)#interface s1/0
HQ(config-if)#ipv6 ospf 100 area 0

After configuration use the “show ipv6 ospf neighbor” on HQ to see if BR is listed in the output.

    @dudest, @CyrusKain: The “ipv6 unicast-routing” should not appear in the config, so we have to type it. Thanks for your detection, we have just fixed it!

    In Step 3.
    Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table:

    Can i use
    HQ(config)#router ospf 100
    HQ(config-if)#default-information originate

    so it is the right configuration or not and also my lab is completed or not ?

    @9tut

    For some reason OSPF is gone from the sim now. A show ip protocols returns the routing protocol as application and a show run has no references or listings of OSPF. However, you’re asked to enter ipv6 ospf router 100 to do a default-information originate command, except now we don’t know what the ospf process ID is because it’s no longer running. About a week or so ago this wasn’t the case; something changed between now and then.

    @CyrusKain: Oh, OSPF was removed because of missing “ipv6 unicast-routing” command. We are still not sure how this sim is showed in the exam. We will update this sim soon when we have enough information about it.

    I had a modification of this sim where:

    – “ipv6 unicast-routing” command WAS in the running-config so no need to configure.

    – The neighborship was not formed because despite the fact that OSPFv3 was configured under the interface, the area was different than 0. Thus you had to remove it (no ipv6 ospf 100 area X), and configure the proper command (ipv6 ospf 100 area 0).

    All good here, but seems that sometimes it works sometimes not, even if at the end it says everything is configured correct the ping does not work .

    The command ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 gives an error when tried.
    instead the command ping 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 is the actual command.

    Kindly share here the final and confirmed commands for this simulation.
    There is many discussions about the answers and we need the final as you see or test

    The check marks for the command fields are not working, I get a broken page icon instead of the check mark. Also, statement 2, even if I put in the correct command as shown in the solution, it still says the statement 2 is not correct. Can you look into it? Thanks!

    Both The command ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 gives an error when tried. AND
    command ping 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 is the actual command. DOES NOT Work.

    ipv6 address FE80::B link-local
    ipv6 address 2021::1/64

    kindly explain, shouldn’t it be like, there is only one ip under the interface?

    Hi 9TUT,
    In the exam , we will be provided with IPV6 default route IP address and also 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 to ping.

    Can’t figure out why we choose area 0 in statement 6
    In running config, nothing mentioned about ospf config
