IPv6 OSPF Sim

Question

All routers are running IPv6 OSPF with process ID 100. The loopback0 IPv4 address is the OSPF router ID of each router.

On HQ router, a provider link is provided and you have to configure an IPv6 default route on HQ and make sure this route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF process. Also troubleshoot why HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR.

Requirements:

1. Configure IPv6 default route on HQ router with default gateway of 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1
2. Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring default route on HQ
3. Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table
4. Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. Troubleshoot and solve the problem

Special Note: To gain the maximum number of points, you must complete the necessary configurations and fix IPv6 OSPF neighbor issue with router BR. IPv6 OSPFv3 must be configured without using address families. Do not change the IPv6 OSPF process ID.

IPv6_OSPF_Topology.jpg

Solution

1. Configure IPv6 default route on HQ router with default gateway of 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1:

HQ(config)#ipv6 unicast-routing
HQ(config)#ipv6 route ::/0 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1

First we have to enable IPv6 routing with the “ipv6 unicast-routing” command then we configure a default route on HQ router.

2. Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001:DB8:0:1111::1 after configuring default route on HQ:

HQ#ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1

Issue the ping test to see if the default route works. The ping must be successful.

3. Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF router HQ. This default route should be advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table:

HQ(config)# ipv6 router ospf 100
HQ(config-rtr)#default-information originate

The command “default-information originate” will generate a default route and send to all other routers in the OSPF domain, provided that the local router has a default route configured.

4. Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. Troubleshoot and solve the problem

Maybe interface S1/0 of HQ was not enabled with IPv6 OSPF (verify by the “show run” or “show ipv6 ospf interface” command) so we have to enable it.

HQ(config)#interface s1/0
HQ(config-if)#ipv6 ospf 100 area 0

After configuration use the “show ipv6 ospf neighbor” on HQ to see if BR is listed in the output.

  1. Nos of simulation questions and total sub question in them
    February 10th, 2018

    Can anyone tell me number of simulation questions they have asked and how many of them are for configuring and how many of them for troubleshooting. Also can you please let me know total number of questions you people got in exam and number of sub-questions under each simulation question and troubleshooting question suing show commands ?

    M going to write on 14th feb so please if anyone could let me know exact number of sim questions as earlier they used to ask 2 to 3 simulations only and there used to be 2 to 3 sub questions in that. so its kind of confusing when other people have told that they got 8simulation questions.

    4. Multiples choice from LAB ( GRE + EIGRP + OSPF ) — Please take note the answer is not the same anymore because they have tweak all the questions with different scenarios. Please make sure you understand how to use all the output commands to get the answers .

  21. THIS IS THE WORDING FOR THIS QUESTION
    April 14th, 2018

    You work as a network engineer for SASCOM Network Ltd company. On router HQ, a provider link has
    been enabled and you must configure an IPv6 default route on HQ and make sure that this route is
    advertised in IPv6 OSPF process. Also, you must troubleshoot another issue. The router HQ is not forming
    an IPv6 OSPF neighbor relationship with router BR.
    Topology Details
    Two routers HQ and BR are connected via serial links.
    Router HQ has interface Ethernet0/1 connected to the provider cloud and interface Ethernet 0/0 connected
    to RA1
    Router BR has interface Ethernet 0/0 connected to another router RA2.
    IPv6 Routing Details
    Ail routers are running IPv6 OSPF routing with process ID number 100 Refer to the topology diagram for
    information about the OSPF areas The Loopback 0 IPv4 address is the OSPF router ID on each router
    Configuration requirements
    • Configure IPv6 default route on router HQ with default gateway as 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1.
    • Verify by pinging provider test IPv6 address 2001 :DB8:0:1111:1 after configuring default route on HQ.
    • Make sure that the default route is advertised in IPv6 OSPF on router HQ This default route should be
    advertised only when HQ has a default route in its routing table.
    • Router HQ is not forming IPv6 OSPF neighbor with BR. You must troubleshoot and resolve this issue
    Special Note: To gain the maximum number of points, you must complete the necessary
    configurations and fix IPv6 OSPF neighbor issue with router BR IPv6 OSPFv3 must be
    configured without using address families. Do not change the IPv6 OSPF process ID.

I would like to say. not all sims questions are the same as we learned here, but if you understand how to troubleshooting with show command, u will be fine. GOOD LUCK GUYS IN YOUR EXAM

    @9TUT:

    In the practice quiz, statement 2 (R1#ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1) is pre-filled and someohow after answering other 3 statements correctly, after submitting it says that statement 2 (which is already pre-filled and looks ok) is incorrect. Can you please check.

    Hi 9tut,

    HQ#ping ipv6 2001:DB8:0:1111::1
    Type escape sequence to abort.
    Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 2001:DB8:0:1111::1, timeout is 2 seconds
    …..
    Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

    After configuring default roue in IPV6 ospf simulator, the ping is not successful..
    But even after doing all the configuration also, it says RESULT as “Correct” , but still the mentioned command is not pinging.

    Kindly suggest me a solution on this…

  36. Jorge Machado

    Vlonee I configured it as a Packet Tracer Activity. Therefore, like in the actual CCNA, you must access the HQ configurations from the terminal on the console PC.

    @bk “What does ::/0 mean in step 1?”

    I think it means default gateway, but im not sure.

  38. Urska
    May 11th, 2018

    @bk
    t::0/ is the default route address (corresponding to 0.0.0.0/0 in IPv4) covering all addresses (unicast, multicast and others).

    Amigo,

    Ill try… but some activities are not supported by Packet Tracer… specifically the GRE simlet, since PT does not support MLPPP. I also need to read the VLAN one, but I need some more clarification on the instructions. But I’ll check the other GRE simlet.

    @9tut or anyone who can answer

    I see that the first answer for this lab, we should run the command ipv6 unicast-routing. But in the running there is ipv6 unicast-routing already listed. Should we put the command any time we need to set ipv6 routes?

    I’m with dudest here. How can the correct answer be ipv6 Unicast-Routing when it’s already enabled in the running-config? I just put ::/0 and then ::/0 as my two answers

    Unless 9tut messed up, there is NO way the answer to this question is ipv6 unicast-routing as it’s currently showing.

    Hm, tags didn’t show.

    I put ::/0 2001:DB8:B:B1B2::1
    I put ::/0 Ethernet0/1
